Temperature Transmitters

Temperature transmitters convert the raw input from RTDs and thermocouples into a stable, standardized output that is robust for transmission and control-system integration. Endress+Hauser notes that modern digital transmitters extend beyond basic conversion by adding intelligence, flexibility, and high measurement accuracy, making them a critical component in the measurement chain for improving process safety and efficiency. This category underpins consistent temperature signals across short and long runs, and across both legacy and modern architectures.

Endress+Hauser’s iTEMP portfolio is described as covering multiple form factors - DIN rail, head-mounted, and field transmitters - along with approvals and communication standards suited to diverse measuring points. Options include models intended for hazardous areas and a secure Bluetooth interface for remote parameterization, supporting faster commissioning and service while limiting the need for enclosure access. The portfolio also positions Ethernet-APL and IO-Link as pathways toward broader digitization strategies in process plants and at simpler device layers.

Communication standards shape how transmitters deliver value. Analog 4–20 mA remains widely used, while HART is described as leveraging the 4–20 mA signal with additional digital data transfer capability. Fully digital fieldbus and industrial Ethernet options (e.g., PROFIBUS, PROFINET, FOUNDATION Fieldbus) provide digital transmission of measured value plus additional information, enabling deeper diagnostics and more scalable device integration strategies.

Endress+Hauser explicitly lists benefits across accuracy, safety, usability, and standardization. Accuracy improvements are attributed to stable output signals, calibration practices, sensor/electronics matching, and Callendar–Van Dusen linearization, with galvanic isolation reducing measurement error mechanisms. Safety value includes hazardous-area suitability, extended diagnostics such as corrosion detection, SIL options, and dual-channel inputs for backup and drift detection. Usability and standardization are supported through Bluetooth/digital tools, display options, and wiring simplification concepts that enable consistent I/O cards, barriers, and cabling from field to control.

Temperature transmitters are applied wherever RTD/TC sensors are used and a standardized, high-integrity signal is required - particularly with long cable runs, electrically noisy environments, or asset management programs that benefit from diagnostics and parameter traceability. Endress+Hauser also positions the “perfect fit” concept as the combination of the right iTEMP transmitter with the right iTHERM thermometer, enabling consistent feature availability across systems and applications.
