Raman Spectroscopic Systems

Raman spectroscopic systems are laser-based analytical platforms that perform chemical and composition analysis by measuring the Raman scattering “fingerprint” of molecules. Unlike single-parameter sensors, Raman delivers multi-component information from a single measurement point, enabling both qualitative identification and quantitative concentration measurement in real time.

A complete Raman solution is typically built from four elements: an analyzer (laser, spectroscopic engine, embedded controller), application-optimized probes/optics that interface to the process, control software for acquisition and instrument health, and data analysis tools that translate spectra into actionable process values. Configurations range from laboratory setups to in‑situ, production-grade installations, with analyzers supporting multiple channels and selectable laser wavelengths. Probes can be specified for inline, online, or at‑line measurement, including no-contact or remote sampling and corrosion-resistant wetted materials.

The primary benefit is the ability to bring laboratory-grade chemical insight into the production environment with minimal delay. Continuous, in situ measurements reduce reliance on manual grab samples and shorten feedback loops for quality and process control. Because measurement is optical and can be non-invasive and non-destructive, it supports safety and efficiency improvements without introducing contamination risks or process disruptions. Method transferability from R&D to manufacturing helps maintain model consistency as processes scale.

Raman systems integrate naturally into modern process analytical technology strategies. Embedded interfaces (touchscreen, web access, and digital communications) support integration with historians and control platforms, while chemometric models enable robust quantification in complex, turbid, or multi-phase media. Certifications for hazardous locations and flexible sampling geometries allow deployment close to the process in demanding environments.

Typical applications include PAT and real-time release support in biopharma and life sciences (fermentation, cell culture, crystallization), reaction and mixing monitoring in chemical production, compositional control in food and beverage processes, and online characterization of liquids, gases, or solids in oil and gas operations.
